The 2017 Toyota RAV4 is one of the major frontrunners in the compact SUV class and for good reason. It’s fuel efficient, spacious, and safe enough to ensure peace of mind during your travels. However, some SUVs, like the Ford Escape, are just as impressive.

To help you understand just how the RAV4 stacks up against the competition, take a look at our detailed 2017 Toyota RAV4 vs. 2017 Ford Escape comparison below.

If you’re looking to save a bit more on gas when driving through Laurinburg, Pembroke, St. Paul’s, and Elizabethtown, check out the 2017 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. With its gas-powered engine and innovative electric motor, this model generates up to 194 net horsepower and an EPA-estimated 36 combined mpg. The RAV4 Hybrid and gas-powered RAV4 also comes with an available all-wheel drive system as well as ECO and Sport driving modes for enhanced performance capabilities.

The Ford Escape has great engines and performance features, but its standard powertrain isn’t as powerful. The base engine in the Escape can only produce 168 horsepower. If you’re looking for a fuel-efficient performance in Ford Escape, you’re out of luck. Its standard engine only gets up to an EPA-estimated 29 mpg highway, and it doesn’t have an additional hybrid model.

Toyota RAV4 vs. Ford Escape Safety

Dependability is one of the main reasons as to why the 2017 Toyota RAV4 is so popular. The RAV4 was named a TOP SAFETY PICK+ for 2017 by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it comes standard Toyota Safety Sense™ P, a system that includes the following safety features that help you avoid an accident.

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist

The Ford Escape has safety features too, but it doesn’t have a Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection to help prevent certain frontal collisions. On top of that, it was not recognized or awarded any titles from the IIHS.
