When you’re currently in the market for a midsize SUV, there are a lot of factors to consider in order to make the right decision. Of course engine performance, interior space, and fun amenities are always crucial to your decision, but safety features should be number one on the list. To highlight the importance of safety, we’re going to take a closer look at the systems and features equipped in the Toyota RAV4 that are designed to protect. We’ll closely examine the active safety, passive safety, and Toyota Safety Sense™ P features. By learning about these systems and features, you’ll be able to determine if the Toyota RAV4 has enough in place to keep you and your passengers protected.

2017 Toyota RAV4 Active Safety Features

2017 Toyota RAV4 Safety FeaturesThe 4-wheel anti-lock brakes featured with the 2017 Toyota RAV4 include a variety of systems designed to give the driver complete control when it comes to braking. Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control utilizes the Traction Control system to prevent a further loss of traction during an instance involving wheel slip. This system brakes the malfunctioning wheel while reducing engine speed to help keep the vehicle on its path.

The Electronic Brake-force Distribution adds more control by varying the amount of brake pressure applied to the front and rear wheels. The Brake Assist system will help the driver come to a complete stop in an emergency situation by detecting panicked braking. During an emergency situation, it’ll assist by adding extra pressure to the brakes to help you stop the vehicle.

Toyota RAV4 Passive Safety Features

The Toyota RAV4 features an advanced airbag system that’ll actively adjust the inflation pressure of the airbags to provide enough cushion to reduce the force of impact from affecting the passengers. This system includes front airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, and even knee airbags for both the driver and front passenger. The vehicle is also outfitted with Whiplash Injury Lessening seats for the driver and front passenger.

Toyota Safety Sense™ P

2017 Toyota RAV4 Safety FeaturesToyota Safety Sense™ P is a system that features a bundle of driver-assisting technology that’s now a standard feature with the 2017 Toyota RAV4. This bundle includes a variety of systems designed to add precision, convenience, and security to your normal driving. Conveniently, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control uses a radar sensor to determine the distance from the vehicle ahead, and it’ll actively reduce the engine speed to maintain a safe distance.

The Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection also uses radar technology. It measures the distance between an object in your path, and it’ll notify you of a possible impact. It’ll also apply enough brake pressure to provide you with a short window to react and bring the vehicle to full stopping power. The Toyota Safety Sense™ P system also features Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Automatic High Beams.
